I just signed up a few days ago. One of my cousins who also likes tattoos had posted some photos on my wall, which led me to some of the facebook pages that feature beautiful women with tattoos, which eventually resulted in my seeing photos of Gogo Blackwater. Needless to say I became an instant fan!
I'm retired from the US Navy. 11 months ago today was my last day. My first 10 years in the Navy I was a Navy Photograher. The last 10 I changed career fields and worked as a Master-at-Arms. My main job focused on what the military calls "Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection". Our primary focus was on protecting our bases and people from terrorists.
I'm working for as a contractor at a US Marine base in Afghanistan now. There really just weren't any decent paying jobs in the states so here I am. I didn't think I'd ever be back to the middle east after I retired ) I've been here since the end of March.
I was just home on leave in Texas last month. I've always wanted a house in the country and I found one that I liked while I was home. A nice brick home on 24 acres. It's just 4 miles from town Even being over here I'm still able to buy. I'm on a large base with a legal services office. They will email me the paperwork when we're ready to close. I will sign everything in front of a notary, have it notarized and then mail it back. I expect to close February 1st... I'm really looking forward to being a homeowner
I will be finishing up this contract the end of March and will be back in the US in April. I'm going to take a break then head to my next contract which I expect to be in Kuwait.
My main interests are writing, photography, reading (I've been a bookworm most of my life), travel (I've visited 27 countries...so far ), horseback riding (I own a 10 year old Paint mare), and scuba diving (I'm a PADI Divemaster with almost 500 dives).
I also like tattoo's (obviously) I only have two right now. Both are reminders of my younger days when I studied martial arts. On my left is a dragon with the kanji for the style I trained in. Kyokushin-kai can be interpreted as "In search of ultimate truth". On my right arm is a tiger.
Martial arts for me was as much a "philosophical" as it was a "physical" pursuit, thus the dragon and the tiger. In the martial arts the dragon symbolizes soft, circular movements, using the opponents energy against them and being more defensive in nature. The tiger symbolizes a more direct "hard" style, that is very aggressive and straight-forward, always attacking.
They are in effect opposites of each other both being very distinct styles. We start as tigers. Learning to be strong and to attack is easier. We should aspire to be dragons. Knowing how to read an opponent and stop attacks before they start or re-direct their energy. This is more difficult
I have not trained seriously in years now, but I have my tattoos to remind me of what was once a major part of my life
