Bianca just deleted her long Splendor post she was writing - I was almost finished
- by accident so you all get the short version... sorry!
Splendor Day One...
First things first... I had to go get all my weekly organic fruit and veggies and the obligatory vege spring roll and pumpkin puff at the West End markets before leaving for Byron. I had to wake up mega early and go so I could be back in time for my friends from the Goldie that were visiting as they had to drop a friend off at the airport whom is relocating to Melbourne. He missed his plane by 5 minutes so, everyone came to visit Bianca's house while they had to wait several hours for another plane. Bianca's dwelling is only small so 7 people makes it very very small. It was very chaotic trying to entertain everyone... some who had been up for three days straight ... while I was trying to finish packing for Splendor... I finally got it all together. After our goodbyes to our friends me and my super buddy were off... we did have to make a quick stop into Surfers to drop some friends home. In all the chaos we forgot to have breakfast so we stopped in at the yummy vege place Magic Apple (Gold Coast Highway) it is really expensive for what is though. I had three types of curries, rice, two kinds of salad, kofta balls... finally we were on our way.
We arrived at the retreat at around lunchtime. It's in this little town kinda in a valley surrounded by rainforest. They only have four cabins in total so it's nice and quite. My super buddy booked the honeymoon suite for us... it had a spa bath, zebra print couch, four poster bed in a loft, a kind of sky light thing and a little deck... it was sooo beautiful. In the morning you could hear all types of birds and animals. The food is to die for... on Sunday we shared a sweet potato gnocchi, tempura vegies, double fried chips, toasted pesto bread with fetta, sun dried tomatoes and hummus and homemade vanilla berry ice-cream with caramel topping (oh yeah I also finally got some pecan pie... I bought it at the cheesecake shop thanks for the tip off MANDY before I left to take with me.
welcome to splendor peoples! nice horses... huh?
I found the secret entrance with the short line at Splendor... the main gate line was soooo long. Only only saw two bands all day...
OMG it's the planeteers... he he... (l to r) pawel, shona, me, clint....
I reviewed for Rave so the following is what I wrote about the acts I saw on the Saturday:
New Zealand rock gods, Shihad pulled off an electrifying set early in the afternoon, throwing in dirty edges and messy outbursts to their glistening, guitar-driven music. They're not any of the rock 'n' roll tragedies or clichs that seem to be associated with every hipster indie rock band these days, just good, honest, straight up rock. Their set today a highlight peppered with many fist-pumping, melody-gushing rock anthems.
The Living End's set under the Supertop while good, was an affair riveted with songs full of drawn out musical interludes which grew a little tiresome yes Mr Cheney we know you're a guitar maven. Not surprisingly the trio's older numbers, Prisoner Of Society and Second Solution got the biggest crowd response and proved the winning formula.
I also ran into lots of beautiful friends... two which had the best set up campsite I have ever seen at an event... it had couch's and a ping pong table! Pretty cool, huh? I ate heaps 5 star spring rolls and cobs of corn I met merchbitch (below)
sneaking beers in!
I had a few moments with beautifuls .... lived the rock n roll lifestyle: sex, drugs, rock n roll... he he he maybe? Maybe not? I'll stay quiet to protect the guilty! I can't really remember what else happened on day one... everything kind of blurred together as things do when you're on vay-kay-shun!

Splendor Day Two...
The official review of acts I saw:
The Beautiful Girls could easily be filed next to Ben Harper, Jon Butler and Xavier Rudd in your CD collection. Their roots and groove approach bringing the stage alight with musical and artistic impulses. The band got the crowd into it early starting their set with harmonica and coaxing the punters to clap along. The performance drifted from reggae, to real blues and roots. A perfect mellow pick for a cruisey Splendor Sunday.
Butterfingers set was heavy on the rock side of things while still balanced with the right amount of hip-hop we've come to love from the zany Brisbane folks that's one of the great things about Butterfingers, the diversity. Tracks from Breakfast At Fat Boys gelled well with a couple of newer tracks. The anthemic I Love Work, tounge-in-cheek Everytime and Yo Mama really sent the party into overdrive.
Adelaide's Hilltop Hoods stole the stage (and the entire festival) with tracks from their critically acclaimed The Calling. MC's Pressure and Suffa worked the crowd into a frenzy while DJ Debris rocked the phat beats. The pure energy under the Mix-up tent was intense, the crowd hanging on every word waiting for their next call/response duty. Breakthrough radio hit, The Nosebleed Section brought their set to a rousing close. The Hoods' set tonight 'certifying' their place as one of Australian hip-hop's finest.
