Betsy and I saw a car accident today.
We were rushing about on a pointless two hour journey.
I was listening to Hack on Triple J: a story about P plater car accidents.
(Provisional plates being the restriction for four years.
Or at least until the leather runs smooth on the passenger seat...)
Now when I describe a young P plater who was weaving in and out of the traffic, it would suggest that I was observing from my non-weaving position. Alas, I was observing him from my weaving position, and I would also suggest we were cheekily competing for lane space.
As the father of a boy who was killed in a P plate accident recounted the fact that they have less experience, I chose the right lane, becuase it tends to be faster in the afternoons.
The P plater chose the left lane, which is really only faster in the morning, when its a bus lane.
The left lane is definately not faster when there are two broken down cars in it.
He weaved round the first one but didn't see the second one round the bend.
He slammed up the back of someone waiting to pull out from behind it.
Am I right to feel guilty? I do. I didn't cause his accident, but I still drive a bit competitively, and shouldn't be encouraging jumped up pantry boys like him.
Betsy must learn to practise safe road.
