I've ended up doing a bit of a clean out, a couple of shirts, pair of pants to good will, 2 pairs of dress shoes. It would have been 3 but they didn't take my running shoes. I gave them the video rack that I made in highschool wood shop.
It is the early piece of wood work that I really liked. It's a nice dark cherry and I managed to talk the shop teacher into letting me finish it with wax so it doesn't have drippy plastic varithane on it. It has a few joints with glue squeeze out on it, an a couple of pieces taper as they didn't have a cross cut sled for the table saw and they were too wide for the chop saw, so the out of square radial arm saw got the job. I had it in my storage locker in the basement for a while but I realized that I'm not going to have a place where I would put it again, and I'm not going to have 30-40 ( i forgot how many it holds) tapes again.
Threw out some canned chicken, canned peaches and KD from backs of cupboards too. And the zombie house plant that my cat kind of liked on the balcony. Maybe it's my mind taking some steps to get ready for when my car sells.
I've been thinking of doing a bit of a revisit on my new years resolutions as a few of them are kind of year long deals:
1) Get my finances back in order: I pay my mortgage weekly for a couple of reasons, those don't matter. The months that have five payments end up being on months with less hours on the pay periods. I also spend most of my money on (the generaly five ) week ends so those months are a bit hard. I am doing better with my finances.
3) Have 26 things I can say I built or finished this year I talked to a friend about this and showed him the pictures I had taken on the projects I had on the go or completed at that point. He thought it was a really good idea for me to do. I like the documentation I've decided to do on this, I think I've got a hundred pictures in the done folder, all nicely organized with construction photos, and finished. From time to time I think about some future job interview where I show someone binder of pictures of things I've made. Hire me as an employee or a competitor. I'm up to 10, and have 3 in progress that I'm working on. On pace would be 14 because to the way the weeks have ended up. I did get bogged down in the spring, and I'm still having trouble working on things after work. I wonder about some sort of resolution on that front next year. I go back and forth on weather I'm going to get to 26 or not, but we'll see.
4) Prove to myself I can make money building things I'm not doing well on this one, I had wanted to make a work table to give myself more production capabilities in the spring but wasn't able to. I can't make any of the bigger things I have plans for like another kitchen island or the modular book shelf or shelving for someone else or kitchen cabinets. I've sold one thing on etsy which will pay for listing on etsy but that's about it. A 1,000 sqft hanger is up for sale at the airport that would be a great shop space but beyond not being able to afford it, I can't even try to justify it.
Any way those are the ones I wanted to talk about.
