Quote of the moment: "So I ended up bending my pipe clamp over the week end.
That's funny because I used my pipe bender as a clamp this week end."
So I was inquiring about a set of dado blades for my table saw (which it turns out can't use them anyways) at my local saw blade shop. I wanted to get the 6" diameter set, rather than 8", as my saw is the cheapest money can buy and I was worried it would have trouble spinning the bigger blades. The guy at the saw place kept trying to convince me that it wasn't much more weight and as a result the moment of inertia also wouldn't be much higher.
Problem 1) a uniform 8" disk has nearly 79% more mass than a uniform 6" disk of the same thickness
Problem 2) saw blades aren't uniform, they are thicker at the teeth, which are on the outter edge.
Problem 3) moment of inertia (I) is I =MxRxR so the 8" dado would use 78% more energy to spin at the same speed as the 6".
In other non saw blade related topics I've started watching the TV show 'Defying Gravity' I find it interesting as it seams to not be cast into the mold of american NASA in the future shows/movies. Mission control has some shadey plan about something that is on board the spaceship, the leader of mission command hates one of the astronaughts, and earlier made him abandon two people on the surface of mars. None of the people on the space ship seam to be cut out to be up there. In last weeks episode there doctor/shrink had a post traumatic stress (episode) flash back. Another almost let one of the crew die of dehydration in the room next to him. They did a good job of dealing with the whole explaining why we're not in zero gravity thing. They had one conversation with mission control that was cut so it could have been cutting out the 40 second delay as the message traveled the 6 million km to earth and back but didn't do it the next conversation
Am I going to watch this week's episode, yes.
And it has Christina Cox, and after 'better than chocolate', I will always watch her shows.

Hrmmm. You may have a very good idea! I think in an effort to avoid dating I'm going to adopt fifty cats. I hear that's the thing to do!
