Part 1. Hadrian's Wall.
Setting home from Scotland, we've alway talked about going to see The Wall. I had been 10 years previous, but it may have well been an old wall in the middle of a field. I also stood in sheep's shit, and unfortunately that's what I remembered the most about that experience.
We decided to do it properly this time, and went to the Roman Museum in Hexham. My son was studying The Romans at School and considering we had been a little naughty by taking him out of school, we could at least make it look like the whole trip had been educational!!
It paid off though... We hardly had to read anything as we had out own, personal walking commentary!
We didn't do Vindolanda though as it was chucking it down (good ole' British weather) But we did make a point in finding a part of the wall and having a good old climb on it... was pretty spectacular, even in its current state...
Would definitely go back and see more. Possibly visit the forts next time.
Was pretty breathtaking, and albeit made by people who were against us, it made me damn proud of my heritage...even if I am Filthy Bog Barbarian... 💗
