Since I was a young child I have always spent a lot of my spare time reading books, I adore reading. I always manage to get lost in a world of imagination, picturing it all exactly how I see it from the words and getting attached to the characters and feeling what they feel. I have always been a reader of the classics e.g Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, Les Miserables, The Sherlock Holmes Collection and many more, but what I have found recently is that when I try to read a newer book, I just cant get into them! Is there a lack of great authors these days? Or am I just missing the good books?! I mean look at the first lines of a selection of my favourite books, I think they are just fantastic.....
“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.” Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen (1813)
'All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way." Anna Karenina, Leo Tolstoy (1878)
"In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I’ve been turning over in my mind ever since. Whenever you feel like criticising any one, he told me, just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.” The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald (1925)
"There was no possibility of taking a walk that day." Jane Eyre, Charlotte Brontë(1847)
In my opinion, the 4 books I just quoted, are 4 of the best ever written! What books do you guys like? Could you give me any pointers on newer authors that are 'great'?
Hope you are all having a fantastic day! Much Love <3
