Fri night, family gone down to the city but I had to stay back for work. Ok been a rough (ish) week anyway.
Home, fed my horse, set the fire, put on dinner then took the two pups my daughter and I picked up last week out of the pen so we could have a bit of quality time.
They were the last of the litter, a seriously cute black runt which my wife and daughter picked, but as it was I who paid and collected them, (at that stage it), I noticed the last one was blind in one eye, and dingo ugly.
(Deformity in large first litters is common).
They were going to have the little girl put down, and I got hit by a soft moment and said I'd take her. (Hell the kids and missus always get to pick the pets - except my horse, so why not??? And I demanded naming rights - Pipa)
As I have every night since we got them, I let them out of the pen and we went for a wee in the paddock - all three of us, and they did their thing(s), then inside for a cuddle in front of the fire whilst I read, ate, and had the first rum of the evening.
Hugs were demanded.
And it struck me.
All kids and middle aged blokes should have a pup to raise. Not only does it teach youngsters about responsinility, love (and eventually grief), but us older blokes get solidly reminded about unconditional love.
Hell the week just got a shit load better!!!!
