Walks by Dirty Crystal Water and the Clear Space and Air...
SPOILERS! (Click to view)
I took the last two weeks off to arrange things for the move, interview and job change etc and took the opportunity to get out of the house and into the 'wilds' of the east midlands. Mom and I hung out quite a lot together to which was cool... We're the best of friends. It can make the relationship strained when we regress to being mother and child, but we've gone through some things that have kind of damaged that link between us, it was best to move on to prevent total collapse... It does mean I struggle with some things, but we can sit around and bitch about things on TV and go clothes shopping together, lol... I pretty much have to fill her need of a daughter at times I think .
There are some nice places in Notts, but it's just not the same as everywhere else I've lived. I'm not an urbanite at heart and no matter where you go you seem to come across a bench, landscaped area or maintained wall or something. Lame. I miss the freddom of west wales and the hidden trails and secret gardens of the Forest of Dean. Somerset is lovely, but at times it is still a bit managed in my eyes... Ah well, I have a whole lot left to discover here. Its gonna be fun and I can't wait to get out to Exmoor and Dartmoor... they'll be bleak enough for me I think.
The park just up the road from my rents has a mini golf course, a botanical garden and a large victroian park house... also a mock train tunnel and crossing... I have not idea why... but I still took a picture.
Victorian Folley (ish) I mean it's part of the house at Clumber Park (I think it's Clumber anyway, there are a lot of manors and dukeries up there - I mean, I think it's in The Dukeries.. Lol).
A large part of the woodland up there is American pine of various varieties... they always remind me of Seafood's album 'Surviving the Quiet'... I think they mention 'the long and tall pines' in many songs. Lovely
There's also a large portion of English Oak up there to, which is cruelly getting sidelined by the other detrius of an excuse for flora... I mean as an island our trees and signiture flowers evolved to grow hard and slow. Yews, Oak, Roses and English Beech, they're famous for there properties unique to the UK. Oak made our ships stronger than any other in Europe for a long time giving us our Naval and shipbuilding heritage. Yew was used to make the classic English long bow the weapon that won the Battle of Agincourt and others. The tree is found in any church yard that has been a centre of spiritual worship for a 1000s years or more because the druids believed it was magical due to it's properties, I mean it's like on of the strongest and most flexible things ever!
It makes me so angry!
What's more comforting than seeing an oak with a thick trunk 2 foot across and knowing that it's been there since the Reformation and will still be when we are regularly holidaying on the moon (probably)! Maybe people don't like being reminded that their lives are pretty insignificant in length... it might motivate them to do something before it runs out... Go plant a tree! I can suggest a Copper Beech if you want really pretty results at low cost after like only a few years . It comes with cool literary references to!

Debriefing...

Well the interview went really well...
Activity Breakdown Type Speech
The first day was a funtastic trip to Didcot power station. Don't snigger! I thought it was cool! Big toys! We had a tour round the turbine rooms, fuel depot and control centre. I was kicking myself for not taking my phone and camera in with me. It was awesome in a very classical sense, 4 sets of boiler, turbines and generator working at near full load producing about 2000MW, burning about 100,000 tonnes of coal a day... that's around 70 tonnes a minute people! The air was wet and smelt of coal, oil and steam... yummy. Engineering geekfest! Needless to say I was adequately impressed upon, lol.
The afternoon was our two on one interviews. I had one of the heads of Npower Renewables and a head of HV at Aylesbury power station (I won't bother with names). It was a good chance to have a chat about the technical aspects of the jobs and their needs and my strengths etc, they had lists of standard questions so went through the electrical and control ones. There were a few moments where they had to lead me into answers, but bah... it was mostly coz of semantics.
That evening we had drinks and dinner in the bar with all the assessors and a few guys currently on the course. Infomative. I worked the room liek a good boy and spoke to most people and made sure I sat at dinner with the electrical managers that I wanted to work with ... I felt like a horrible mercenary, but it's what you have to do at these things. I wasn't the last one to bed, but I was still up pretty late with one of the current grad guys.. they werre taking full advantage of the free bar, lol... I also had to help one of the HR guys who was running the event to bed. I snuk out for a cheeky cig and found him passed out on the patio with a fag in his hand I had to grab one of my fellow interviewees and get him to help me carry him to his room ... He was still up in the morning mind, looking sheepish. Ha. Nobody gossiped, but we all knew.
The second day was a presentation and group activites that involved putting together patterns on cards blind. The presentation was good, I did it to the scot I sat with at dinner and a control engineer dude. They really liked it told me as much . I felt dead proud. SOme of the other graduates/graduands (almost) had realy good master projects in complex stuff, but they were so nervous they could barely say the titles to us outside, god knows what they were like inside the oom, but they sweat a lot! I guess I just don't get paniced by these things... I'm a very mellow kind of guy at work, lol.
We all ended with good byes and more free food. Good times. I made some lovely new mates to that I'll stay in touch with in the interest of networking. It made the group activity that much easier at the end after all our bonding, lol. It happened that Ian the Nothern Irish dude I meet in the bar on the night before the interviews, Chris a lovely lad from Bristol and Carlos the sper fly Spanish mech guy were in my group and we had hung out a fair bit already, despite the group lists being drawn up weeks before unknown to us. I guess the organiser types do a good job.
Tastey Package
I get to sit at a home base with my line manager doing general experience type things and getting my fingers in projects that would suit my 'main discipline', then do placements and gain experience under my own direction in ANY other department or section. I can't even begin to describe the amazing flexibility the course offers... for 2 years! The pay would be a cut... but that doesn't really add up, when you're on placements, that can be upto 6 months, it's all living expenses paid. Mostly people live in swish hotels for like 18 months out of the 24 I hear.
The Rest
Fingers are firmly crossed! But I think my relaxed attitude in interview was mostly du to the fact that next week I start a new job anyway. Not quite as door opening, still pretty door opening though, lol... No insecurity of a current student!

Dragonforce are gay...
SPOILERS! (Click to view)
It's only a guess... but they're either gay, or have amazing senses of humour... I met them in Birmimgham and I'm pretty sure they had no sense of humour. Sorry if you like them, I'm not a homophobe, I'm sure you're a lovely gay person...
If you don't think that's funny and are insulted, you must like Dragonforce and share their sense of humour... Rather than have a legitimate one that you love them as you love the Simpsons AKA you can laugh at it. Don't get precious about them... it will not gain my respect and I will remain comfortable and single.
My new pad in Somerset is lovely. My landlady had been vry accomodating and I think I'll settle pretty quick. We're gonna do some cooking of a sunday roast this afternoon for some bonding, but she's very busy most of the time it seems. Suits me. I have a lot to explore and do, the isolation will kind of be useful. What I really needed to do was buy a rifle and jump a ship to siberia to hunt wolves or gather furs in 'the new world', but alas... time has moved on........
Had some final farewells in Brum last week with a few people. It's not like I'm never going to see them again, but any excuse is a good one. Is was fun and very messy... I went out with my surrogate sister Ash as I usually do friday when all my housemates and ex/current bandmates complain about a lack of money and time and how WoW is a whole lot more important than stupid things like socialising with none virtual adventurers! *Breaths* ... She's awesome... She stops me being lame around girls when I know they're all not interested in me, she tells them they are, or convinces me to convince them ... If she's chatting up a guy, I'm her gay friend... when she or I apporoaches a girl, she's my gay friend. It works very well ... Also we tend to go out as a twosome and find new friends... it makes an old city seem very new at times...
This lass managed to steal my number fom her though after I left the last bar I made it to (I didn't eat all day... so was very much Done by 5am) she's been texting loads and about 2 seconds after I text her, you know, in that way that makes you wonder where they sent it before you sent yours!? I mean I only spoke to hre for like an hour or two! Does she not have anything better to do! It worries me when girls are that interested. Precedence dictates It usually means bad things.
As my camera is still at my brother's I did not take any... Ash is like the only person I know that carries a camera around with her and I alwasy forget about using my phone (fooool - Ed).
I ought to have some of, like, the people I spent most of the last 4 years with, but they have been decidedly preoccupied. Shame. They're just the kind of people that don't really ever look out of their own pot smoke cloud. So you have to make the effort... all the time... A few of the guys have put togther a new band and they're okay. Although they keep getting refered to along with people who are old enough to be old but not old enough to be classic... so I don't know how well they'll do. They like it though. Despite what they might think at times, I do miss and enjoy their company, but they graduated nearly 2 years ago and still all live like grubby students... bah. I mustn't bitch.

Visual Delights (???)...
SPOILERS! (Click to view)
Below are a few examples of the aesthetic theme I have been enjoying the mostest recently...
My hair is growing far to slowly...
Also I heart the late eighties and early nighties (when it was basically still the eighties)
Also... some spacemyplace style pictures because I got bored with my phone camera...
Also... I need to have sex to this song...

I probably have other things to say... but I'm out of breath tbh. I was so bored of me by wednesday afternoon after all that interview stuff, I kept hearing myself speak and being like... 'dude, you are so full of shit!' and I was, selling sucks, especially when it's yourself... Also.... RETURN OF THE JEDI IS ON THE ZOMBIE DOOM BOX! That's the next few hours sorted. Sunday afternoon mantinee RULES!
xoxoxo
