Holy crap! The RNC has totally taken over dtwn St. Paul! Its crazy! There's a two block radius of barbedwire fencing put up and blockades on nearly every street near the X-cel Center. This week is gonna be nuts down here.
This morning, just a couple blocks away having breakfast with friends, we counted as they rolled slowly by our window - 42 news vans or trucks, including a huge CCN bus that was all decked out like a red, white, and blue radar dish tank RV thing. I believe they have Eagle Street Grill completed rented out to be their Headquarters?
The train tracks right out my front window have a staging area where a fancy Amtrak is picking up McCain, and other top visitors...Bush? This lot usually sits pretty empty, even during the weekday when maybe about 70 vehicles use it to park...but is now got constant, cops, black window tinted trucks and limos pulling in and out, fancy tour buses, black helicopters buzzing about, lights, tents, balloons, construction people, and security all running around.
Hopefully I'll be home when the load the big wigs in and I can scope em out with my binoculars! Maybe even stroll over there and see how far I get. I kinda want to test the security a bit, as I know this area very well and there's lots of little ways to get to those tracks from the the river side.
Here's a few things that'll be interesting for sure that I'm gonna be checking out:
Huge block party right out my front door on Broadway & 4th - 20 bands playing for free - Sunday all day and night and again Tuesday all day and night.
Monday night at Cristo's, two blocks away, which I can neither confirm nor deny, there's a huge dinner thats hosting a bunch of the parties top mentionables including Arnold Schwartsznegger. And across the street at Station 4 they are doing a special Burlesque protest that evening by Foxy Tann and the girls. That should be interesting?
Plus all the concerts going on out on Harriet Island, again I can neither confirm nor deny, Dave Matthews hosting a free concert? When? Not sure.
I'll be updating all the fun things I get to see and do as this week as the RNC goes into high coverage mode. So stay tuned if interested. This will be a blog heavy week
