So I've been home sick for a day or two here, comforting myself in nostalgia and leafing through a book on the 80's. And this is something that's interested me for a while- our lack of icons. I mean, let's look at some of the icons of past decades-
50's - Elvis, Marlon Brando and Marilyn Monroe.
60's -Beatles and the Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, James Bond (yes, Bond is from the 60's), Woodstock,etc.
70's -John Travolta, Led Zepplin, Farrah Fawcett, Robert Redford, disco, "Star Wars", etc.
80's had Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, Bruce, Eddie Murphy, Sylvester Stallone, ET and Ronald Reagan (playing the role of the president)
90's- Kurt Cobain, NWA, the supermodels (Cindy Crawford, etc), Baywatch, "Pulp Fiction"
First of all, do you notice how the icons kinda shrink as the decades go on? And second, who do you think will be the iconic people. bands, movies, will be remembered from this decade? Who will be on the cover of the stupid nostalgia book that's put out on this decade?
Just curious.
