Daniel Patrick Moynahan once said that to be Irish is to know the world is someday going to break your heart. That, for better or worse, has pretty much summed up my worldview. But today I'm gonna allow the better angels of my nature to have their day. I'm putting my cynicism away to say a silent prayer for a better world.
I lost one of my friends this summer to pancreatic cancer, and this day would have meant more to him than anyone else I can think of. So this day, for me, is for Michael. I miss you, brother.
Grab your ticket and your suitcase
Thunder's rolling down the tracks
You don't know where you're goin'
But you know you won't be back
Darlin' if you're weary
Lay your head upon my chest
We'll take what we can carry
And we'll leave the rest
Big Wheels rolling through fields
Where sunlight streams
Meet me in a land of hope and dreams
I will provide for you
And I'll stand by your side
You'll need a good companion for
This part of the ride
Leave behind your sorrows
Let this day be the last
Tomorrow there'll be sunshine
And all this darkness past
Big wheels roll through fields
Where sunlight streams
Meet me in a land of hope and dreams
This train
Carries saints and sinners
This train
Carries losers and winners
This Train
Carries whores and gamblers
This Train
Carries lost souls
This Train
Dreams will not be thwarted
This Train
Faith will be rewarded
This Train
Hear the steel wheels singin'
This Train
Bells of freedom ringin'
This Train
Carries broken-hearted
This Train
Thieves and sweet souls departed
This Train
Carries fools and kings
This Train
All aboard
This Train
Dreams will not be thwarted
This Train
Faith will be rewarded
This Train
Hear the steel wheels singin'

I'm so sorry for your loss, it's a beautiful thing that you keep your friends light burning with your memories.
Thank you for your kind words on my latest blog, and the picture accompanying it.
I'd been sat outside reading, and had just finished my book when I took that picture. It seemed fitting to quote a passage from the book with the picture, I was contemplating it at the time and it goes hand in hand with some recent events.
I was taught about Martin Luther King in school in the UK, and we did study the entire speech but it was quite some time ago. I enjoyed reading it again.
That said, it isn't common to be taught in depth over here, which is a great shame, as there is so much to learn on so many levels.
I'm glad that you're well. I'm doing ok, anticipating life's curve balls .
