John Lennon was murdered 28 years ago today.
I actually remember that day. I know that dates me. I was 7 years old. The Beatles were the first music I remember being aware of. My sister and I used to stand on our parents bed and sing Beatles songs into the bedposts (which looked to us like microphones). My older cousin Brendan was (and is) a Beatles fanatic then and used come over every afternoon to listen to my parents Beatles records, because he didn't have any of his own.
I remember seeing the 5 o'clock news with my mom and watching footage of people gathering in Central Park when news of Lennon's murder got out. "Brendan's gonna be sad" I said. I think my mom was crying too.
John Lennon was an imperfect man, as men are. But he washed his dirty laundry in public and bravely stated his own faults before anyone else could point them out. He wrote some of the best pop music of all time and yet some of the most devastatingly personal. He was a genuine social revolutionary and a true genius (a much overused word). I wish he was around more in my lifetime.
I say this all the time- I know the Beatles are pretty much universally regarded as the best band ever, but I STILL think they're underrated. The Beatles were so light years ahead of their time that we STILL haven't caught up with them. I can't imagine that we'll see anything like them again.
I drove by the Dakota Building, where John Lennon lived and was murdered, just the other day. By accident, actually. But when I pass by there I can't help but looking at that sidewalk out front and knowing that John Lennon was shot in that very place. It still gives me chills.
Give peace a chance. All you need is love. I am the walrus. Goo goo ga joob.

I mostly see scenstery douchebags who I can only assume are trying to make some brilliant and ironic comment on society having one... *rolls eyes*
I am good. Except for the fucking snow today! Living in the country does suck in some ways after all.
