It's "Juno"-mania!!!!!
The country is obsessed with this movie! Critics are falling all over themselves to praise it. It was just nominated for a bunch of Oscars, including Best Picture. Has anyone NOT heard about the story of "stripper turned screenwriter" Diablo Cody?
And am I the only person who hated this movie?
God I hated it. Hated it, hated it, hated it. I like every one of the actors in that movie with the exception of Jennifer Garner, who I have no opinion of. But the characters depicted in this movie bear no resemblance to any human beings I have ever met in real life. Juno herself is in no way a realistic depiction of a 16 year old girl, but the hipster fantasy of a 28 year old screenwriter.
I'll give you one example: "Silencio, old man!"
If you haven't seen the movie it goes like this: 16 year old girl decided to have sex with her best friend. Then she thinks she's pregnant, so she goes to the pharmacy and buys a pregnancy test and takes it right there. The pharmacist, played by Rainn Wilson, tells her "That's one doodle that can't be un-did, home skillet"
And she says "Silencio, old man!"
WHAT?
Now let's look at this situation. We have a 16 year old facing an incredible, life changing moment and the script uses it as an excuse for hipster wisecracks. And this is supposed to teach us something about the human condition?
I hated when Juno hipsterized through telling her parents about her pregnancy. I hated when she cracked wise through her entire meeting with the couple who she wanted to adopt the baby she's about to have. I hated that we were supposed to find Michael Cera's headband and orange tick tacks hysterical.
I hated this movie.
Sorry, End rant.
