Molly Ivins has died.
For those of you who don't know Molly Ivins she was a Texas author, columnist, and general thorn in the side of the Bush family. She was mercilessly funny, honest and a much needed voice of reason. Some of her stuff can be read here.
She'll be missed.
Wanna hear a nice story? I read today that a Private Shannon Dale, who had been serving in the National Guard in Afghanistan, returned home this week to Paintlick, KY (Yes, Paintlick) after serving for two years. She had written her friends before returning home saying that she wished she had been home in time for Christmas, so the entire town of Paintlick had Christmas AGAIN for Shannon. The town was redecorated. Services were held, gifts were given. There was a Christmas re-do just for Shannon Dale's return.
See? Nice.
Just to counter that, however, is a short rant: I take the Miidtown Tunnel from Manhattan to Queens every day for work. The Midtown Tunnel has two Queens-bound lanes in the morning, which are separated by cones and pylons. The left lane enters from 36th street where the right lane is fed from 35th and 34th. I always take the 36th St entrance and therefore the left lane. There is a traffic light where these lanes meet. There is also a HUGE sign by said light that reads "LEFT LANE CAN PROCEED ON RED" since that lane is isolated and not subject to merging traffic. However at least HALF the time I enter the tunnel some idiot in my left hand lane sits at the light, right underneath the HUGE sign telling them not to, as a dozen car horns blare behind them. This literally happens just about every other day.
