This may be my favorite news story of the week:
A concerned citizen, Mr. Bill Jone of Centerville, MO, wrote his (Republican-ahem) Congressperson, one Jo Ann Emerson, about the recent charade of oil execs testifying before Congress-where the execs LIED about a secret energy meeting with Dick Cheney. The letter Mr. Jones got in return was a fairly standard form letter ("Thank you for your concern about bla bla bla") except that it ended with the sentence "I think you're an asshole."
The letter was HAND SIGNED by Ms. Emerson. In addition she also included a hand signed note at the bottom that said "PS-Please forgive the delay in responding"
In other words "I meant to call you an asshole much sooner."
Predictably Ms. Emerson's office says they have no explaination as to how the last sentence made it into the letter.
The story can be found here.
