I've never really dated before. Like, actually go out on dates, take the time before just jumping in the sack. Not that is ever bad but this is a new experience for me. So far it seems to be going well.
Had been chatting with a girl, and one day around noonish we were texting and she said she was needing a ride to her friends place to pick up a car and drive it somewhere else. So, me being the nice guy I am I offer to pick her up. I get to the place to pick her up and I'm not really a touchy person (I don't even like handshakes most of the time) but I get a hug right away and she smells amazing. So, we get in the car and drive to Tacoma for her friend. Turns out her friend is at a planned parenthood and the girl I'm with (who I'll call Tera) was going to drive her home if needed. The friend is still waiting and finally gets called back, so Tera and I hang out in my car, talk and get to know each other a little more. Turns out that Tera's friend doesn't need a ride and she's good to go. So, Tera and I take off and decide to get food.
Tera asks me what I feel like eating or where I want to eat. I'm still new to the area and don't know many places, I name off the few I do know and she isn't having any of it. She wants to get me out of my comfort zone a little and try something new. I'm ok with this and I actually like a girl who takes charge. Sometimes being the man and always leading the way can be trying and just... meh. Also, she's a woman who is very good with directions and navigation. She got us around all the crazy traffic that is the Tacoma area. So, we find a Greek restaurant. and we eat and chat more. Now, all this time we have been doing the whole get to know you type of thing, questions and such. Also, just regular conversation. We had a good lunch and a good time just talking to each other. It was light hearted and she was laughing or giggiling most of the time, which I took as a good sign. Food is finished and she snuck in paying for the bill while I was in the bathroom (was not trying to get her to pay btw) she said that since I drove her around she should pay for the food. And that I could buy drinks next time we go there because they have Irish Death and she loves Irish Death. I take that as a really good sign, because she is talking about going out again. Something is going right. We head out and I drop her off where she needed to go and she does the hug in the car and a kiss on the cheek. Doing pretty well.
So, that was Thursday and we continue to text, not heavily but randomly through the day. Cut to Monday. She wants to know if I'd like to go to a park with her and the kid she nannies. Of course I will. The day is beautiful and sunny. I get to the house to pick her up and she's making sandwiches and says that we're going to have a picnic and then play some Frisbee and then go for a walk. Again, I like a girl who takes charge... So, we get to the park and eat, play some Frisbee and run around a lot with the kiddo. Walk around the park a bit and then finally pack it all up and head back because I have to work a nightshift. Now, all this time I'm pretty hands off, as I'm not a big touchy guy until I know that I'm allowed to put my hands on her... I dunno I'm shy.But once again, we have a great time, she's laughing a lot and I'm taking that as a good sign. and again, we talk about doing things like this again. Another good sign. So, get back to the house, unload the car of picnic stuff and such. and there was a waiting for the kid to head inside but he's running around in the yard anyway. We're both standing there as I'm about to head out. She's close and turns to me, puts her arms on my shoulders and looks up and kisses me. Not a quick kiss but not a super long one. then hugs me, and asks if she'll get to see me again soon. I reply of course, like tomorrow or the next day or whenever she'd like. I get another kiss and then I hop back in the car and head out.
We text just a bit but she thanks me for the day and said she had fun. I tell her I had a great time too. and I don't really hear from her the rest of the night. But I know she's busy. Next morning, still no word from her and me being the over analyzer I am, I start to worry. Did I do something wrong, did I text something wrong the night before? Shhhhhhhhhhit. It gets on in the day and she texts me, says she's sorry but she was helping a friend dye her hair. Relief takes the weight off my shoulders. I say that I'm just cleaning my apartment but if she needs a ride anywhere or wants to get together later before I have to go to work, I'd be free. She's tanning and then heading to the park with the kid she nannies so that he can burn off some energy and that she's with her friend. (the one from PP) She'll text me later if she's free. Totally cool.
I'm bad at walking that line of not smothering the girl, lol. I'm used to being with someone and kind of doing something with them every day... this goes back to that whole, dating is new to me thing. I'm also hard on myself. I shouldn't have worried that she didn't text me right away this morning. The signs are there that she likes me and wants to do more with me and I should not worry too much about another time. I don't think she'd be a girl that says she want to get together again and then not.
Anyway, I have borderline sunburns on my face and arms but I feel like it was worth it.
