Welcome to the Land down under! and Race Riots?!... I've arrived in Australia amidst high tension between Lebanese gangs and xenophobic Australians.
In response to atacks on 2 volunteer lifegaurds the weekend prior to my arrival, angry mobs took to the streets attacking people who appeared to be of middle-eastern descent. Last night, mobs gathered again outside a mosque here in Sydney.
I suppose Chuck D is correct in asserting that we haven't come as far in the world as some may have us beleive. Hate and intolerance are still the norm. Sad really.
Still, the weather is beautiful here and I spent last weekend in the nations capital Canberra and I am now back in Sydney looking for work.
HIgh tension abounds here at my friends place as they prepare for their wedding and christmas. It looks to be a gong-show as there will be many people here over the holidays from Canada and Australia.
