I had a really terrifying scar just a couple weekends ago. My dog Lilu had been acting a lil weird for a while and drinking a tong of water. She started getting sick, and peeing in the house, both of which is highly unusual for my dog. Finally took her to the vet and they diagnosed her with diabetes. We didn't diagnose her soon enough. She was so sick she couldn't even hold down water. Finally, on 4/20, after having spent the entire night looking after my sick dog and trying to get her to eat anything, my parents took Lilu while I went and spent a 12 hrs working between my two jobs. Lilu ended up having to stay that whole weekend at the vet's because she was on an IV and wasn't eating or keeping water down. We were able to bring her home that Monday, but only to see if being at home, maybe she would choose to eat on her own again (they had to force feed her at one point, just to get something in her for the insulin to work on). The vet told me that if we had even waited 1 more day to bring her in, she wouldn't have survived. That whole week after, I spent working lots and being terrified of losing my dog, since she was still very weak and we were just starting her on insulin.
I now have to give my dog injections every 12 hrs. I thought I would be a wreck giving my dog insulin, but 1) the injections go in her back, so she doesn't have to look at me while I do it 2) as long as I don't hit fat or other tissue, the needle won't really hurt her. She's been very good about getting her shots. I have to feed her first, wait about 20 mins or so, and then give her insulin. I tend to feed her and then about an hour later, give her the insulin. Also, she has turned into a really picky eater and won't eat her dry food anymore. She just wants to eat the expensive canned dog food now. It makes her bad gas even worse.
Well, time for bed. I get to work another wonderful 12 hr day tomorrow between the craft store and my current temp assignment (which they love me at, btw).
I miss all you chatters! <3
