Tonight was a great night. I took the Metro Blue Line (think, "subway, but slower, and above ground") from Long Beach up to LA to meet Shalome after work, and then we went up to Hollywood to get some positively exquisite indian food.
The hour long ride up there gave me a chance to finally crack open the volume of Vladimir Nabokov short stories that someone in SG:NHS bought for me in our gift exchange. I'd almost forgotten just how much I loved his writing. I mean, I didn't really almost forget...I knew I loved his writing, but it was in the way you know you loved a movie you haven't seen in awhile. I didn't really remember just what it was about his writing that struck me so hard. I got through two short stories, and then had to put the book away and stare out the window for the duration of the trip, as there was just too much going on in my head to be able to focus on another story. I had to let the imagery and ideas from those two works float around inside my head and then seep in slowly.
I sincerely hope you all had as excellent an evening as I did.
