Friday
Reprobate and I went to Das Bunker and saw Babyland. There was much yelling, and much banging on debris.
Saturday
I was skeptical about how apocalyptic Saturday night would actually be when we boarded the shuttle from the parking garage to the location, and of about a dozen people on the shuttle, four of us (Shal and I included) looked like we were dressed for the event as billed. One of the others was in all white, with a white hat, neon glowing sunglasses, and neon paint splattered about. It worried me that he seemed to know most of the other people on the shuttle.
My concern about the night grew as we entered and noticed how very un-apocalyptic everyone looked. Apparently, to most attendees, "goth/fetish/industrial/apocalyptic dress" meant "put on some severe makeup and spike up your hair a bit more than usual." I began to get upset when I realized that the DJs were playing standard trance/ambient/breakbeat stuff. Now, don't get me wrong, I like trance on occasion, but when I'm going to an event called "The Apocalypse," which is supposed to be a night of goth/industrial decadence and debauchery, it comes as a bit of a shock.
However, once the night got rolling, we had a couple drinks, and we started running into our friends, we settled into place a bit. It wasn't what we expected, but we ended up having a great time anyhow. Melladoree has a couple pics in her journal. There were some spectacular shows by a group of fire dancers, and the space was really pretty awesome. The music kept everyone dancing until the sun came up, and all in all, I'd say it was a success.
Trilobyte and Fractal put a lot of work into organizing it, and it seemed to go off pretty smoothly. They deserve tons of credit. For all my initial concern, it was actually a lot of fun.
Sunday
I slept in, while Shalome went to Irvine to play a small part in the film Cineman is shooting. I showed up later to be an extra in a couple "night club" scenes. I love being on film sets. I love even more when I have something to do.
--------
We had entirely too many things going on this weekend. I think we need another weekend now to recover from the weekend. Alas, a new work week begins tomorrow morning.
