So yeah, off to Defcon!

Got my squid proxy server set up, and I'll be tunneling all of my (and Shal's) web traffic over ssh from the convention to the proxy at our house and out into the internet.

In other words, all of our web surfing will be encrypted. This is essential at a hacker convention, as Saruman found out last year, when he got his SG username and password sniffed and the username projected onto the "wall of sheep" at the con.

Now, we hit the road. We'll be there in a few hours, after stopping to pick up essential supplies (some cash, camera batteries, a little bit of food and a whole lot of alcohol).

We may be setting up a webcam to catch some of the debauchery in our hotel room, and if so, I'll post on the boards in the Defcon thread.

UPDATE (saturday): No internet connection from the room, as the hotel has wisely shut off their room connections, and the conference wireless doesn't reach that far. Alas, this means no debauchery-cam. That's okay though, we've been up to all sorts of no good in and around the pools.
