Nov 4, 2008, my house, with SGLA at the start of President-elect Barack Obama's victory speech:
Thanks to RedVillain for capturing the moment(s).
Earlier today, I told Shalome that I was strangely excited, not for anything in particular, but for the future. It's really a bizarre feeling, like the anticipation before going to a show from one of your favorite bands, but somehow the knowledge that the future won't come overnight and that there will be challenges and setbacks along the way doesn't diminish that anticipation.
Speaking of setbacks, we didn't get everything we wanted. But change is coming, the pendulum is swinging back to the progressive side, and that means progress will be made. It won't be made all at once, and we won't win every battle, but it will come. The things that we fought for and lost last night will be won in the coming years. Candidates who lost narrowly this year will win in 2, 4, 6 years. That doesn't mean we can rest on our laurels, it just means we can't let those setbacks get us down.
I'm really looking forward to the next Congress, and the next four years.
