The other night I was listening to NPR's broadcast of BBC radio, and there was a program about monsters real and perceived. It was a really thorough exploration of the origin of monsters in various religions, tales and in popular culture. One of the ideas discussed was that one catalyst for the creation of monster stories is the unease society has with desires and impulses, particularly sexual or violent desires and impulses. We don't want to admit that those characteristics are present in all of us in differing amounts, so we create vessels to use as outlets for them, and then we demonize them to differentiate ourselves.
I dunno, I just thought that was interesting. People are funny.

Oh, and I all the LA kids for coming all the way down to the LBC. That was really a pleasant surprise. Those peoples rock.
