Explaining SG to feminist friends
Anyone else having issues with explaining to your non-SG-aware friends what you're doing when you're spending so much time online? Especially if you're part of one of the regional groups, and thus spend several nights a month going out with people they don't know.
"Uh...I know them from...uhh...work-related endeavors."
It's especially tough for me because several of my friends are feminists who aren't big on the idea of porn, and I want to try to figure out how to get them to think about why they don't like porn, so that I can propose the idea that if porn didn't have the characteristics they disapprove of, it might actually be a positive, empowering way to express our own sexuality and celebrate the beauty and sexuality of others. "Oh, and hey, since you agree with that point, I've got a site I think you should check out..."

Vivaaaaaaaaaa Las Vegas!
(This chunk of post will remain in the most recent post all week, as this will be the state I'm in until the weekend)
I'm in hibernation mode, storing up energy and cash for my trip to Defcon in Vegas this weekend. My friend Clint and I are heading up Thursday night. Wheee!
This'll be my first trip to Vegas (!!!), but it'll be a mercifully short one, as I'm sure that between staying up all night drinking with geeks and trying not to spontaneously combust in the Vegas sun during the day, we'll probably be ready to head home by Saturday night / Sunday morning. He doesn't know about SG, but I'm meeting up with (at least) Josh, Paul_MuadDib (and hopefully) Shalome, Saruman, Gilbert, and Al, and probably some of the less vocal participants of the Defcon threads as well, so that should be a fine introduction to SG for him. Luckily, he's not one of the friends I'm worried about trying to explain SG to.
