So I guess I should tell you all a little about it....
As I already mentioned, the QOTSA show last Thursday was awesome, I had so much fun. When that wrapped up my girls and I jumped straight in the car and headed for Byron Bay. Not a bad drive and my girl Bella managed to do it all with no sleep. I crashed and burned around 2:00am unfortunately.
Rolled into town around 9:30am very tired and reeking of ours and other people's sweat from the night before. Fell in love with Byron immediately. It was already overrun with festival goers but I imagine that the friendly, relaxed vibe doesn't depart when they do.
Found our accomodation (yes we piked it and didn't camp, but was rather glad given the night time temps and copious amounts of rain that preceded us) and fell in love all over again. We stayed in an apartment right on the beach (or close enough for retelling purposes anyway) and it was by far the most luxe place I've ever stayed in my life.
The rest of the day was spent not being able to cook 2 minute noodles properly due to extreme tiredness and then catching up on sleep. Went out for Thai that night and ate so much I was actually a little disgusted with myself. Then went for icecream. We decided to have a weight gain competition for the weekend and I was well in the lead that night. Stayed up till 4:00am jumping on beds and having a double chin competition (which I promptly won, and no, those photos will NEVER see the light of day) with Em before collapsing into bed.
Woke up at 8:00 and left everyone to sleep in while I just went wandering around, trying to take everything in. Late late late breakfast at the Pass Cafe (if you live anywhere nearby go there immediately and order the french toast with grilled banana and maple syrup. Seriously. Right now). Came back to our digs, hung out for a while drinking beer and talking shit then decided to wander downstairs and buy some chips from the burger place under our apartment. Not only were they really good chips, but Troy van Leeuwen from QOTSA and APC was in there buying a burger (and being hot). He was the only person in there and when we staggered in clutching beers and demanding chips he looked a little spooked. But he was really friendly, chatted for about five minutes and then we left him to it. Turns out they were staying in the hotel next door to us.
Anyway, we eventually made it to Splendour and a great time was had by all. Very excited to be seeing Queens again and they delivered, but couldn't help wishing for Thursday night all over again.
Left after their set and headed back into town. Desperate to go out but many places were closed and others had lines longer than we had the patience for so just went home and hung out. Em and I kept everybody awake again with our giggling until the wee hours of the morning. Woke up at 8 again and headed down the beach while everybody else slept. Water was super cold but it felt good to be in the ocean. Another late breakfast, headed into Splendour for a while then I had to depart early in order to catch a plane that would get me home in time for school on Monday.
Ok a very long entry that probably wasn't very interesting to anyone who wasn't involved in my weekend but it's my journal so too bad!
