Italian Night '05 went a little something like this:

The Giants, for those of you keeping track thus far this year, are abyssmal. Say what you will about Bonds, the bullpen, or those damn Caribbeans, but this season has been a nightmare. At this year's Ital-fest, part of the Ethnic Heritage Week that included high-fives to Irish and Jewish fans, we were packed in the bleachers. Once again the clever promotional giveaway gimmick was a Giants hat with a wee Italian flag stitched on the side.

However... as if to prove that the Giants marketing department has about as much sense as the front office and coaching staff, they decided to make the hats bright red (flag red? spaghetti sauce red?) with a black logo. Sure that's fun, and a welcome change from last year's standard black-and-orange, especially considering the Irish folks have been getting crazy green hats for two years now.

There was just one problem. Italian Night '05 was scheduled on a night when the Giants were playing the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies, for those of you not up on major league uniforms, sport bright red hats. The bleacher section for last Tuesday's game looked like this:

So responding to what must've looked like an outpouring of west coast support for their wild card chances this year, the Philadelphia Phillies Phucked up the Giants to the tune of 10 - 2.

For those of you following the story from last year's event, we did indeed have the same infamous sign on hand. And we had Jack, who swore to destroy said sign ("That's the same sign? Seriously? No way. Two years is too long a life for a sign.") Despite several vain attempts, however, we ended up having the last laugh.

That's a picture of my brother wiping garlic fries off his stash with Jack's lawbooks. And, yes, Jack brought his lawbooks to the Giants game. Maybe he thought it'd help him get chicks.

Forza Giganti!
