My laptop died on Friday.
Crash, burn, all the rest I was crippled, crushed, and a touch belligerent. My overall anxiety was eased somewhat by the guy from India who handled my tech support. Imagine Apu from the Simpsons saying: Hello and thank you for calling Dell hardware support. How may I help you my name is Floyd.
Would have been a lot funnier had I not already been on hold for 90 minutes.
His solution was to reformat my hard drive. Fuck. Thank God or, more specifically, thank Rx (or, indeed, thank God for Rx and that goes without saying) for my Iomega external hard drive. Two weeks ago she alerted me to the Office Depot sale on my 160GB lifesaver. Otherwise, I would have been a lot less patient with my man Floyd.
The CDs sent with my laptop did not contain all of the correct drivers. No problem, says Floyd: hop online and download the correct ones. Except one of the drivers missing was for my wireless card. Cant. Get. Online.
For the record, despite more hours on hold/on the phone with other members of the cordial albeit incompetent Dell support team, I ended up fixing my wireless problem myself. Trial and error overcomes dependence on pseudo-experts once again.
Its been a looooong weekend. I have some catching up to do. And a lot of downloading to take care of. I still dont have a functioning sound card, my DVD player doesnt work, and all of my photo editing software needs to be reacquired.
My mood should improve over the week. Im going record shopping today.
