my signature party trick is napping. yes, that's right, napping. i pick a chair or couch located near some interesting conversation, or if there is none, opt for the bedroom under a fort of coats. mostly i doze off and listen...and it's amazing what people will say in front of you when they think you're fast asleep. the best times are when i dream a...

yes...but socartes seems more like the dirty-old-man-frotage-on-the-symposium-couch kind of guy, rather than the wham-bam-thank-you-young-man type. after all, alcibiades tries to seduce him to no avail, and spends most of his speech talking about the philosopher as cock-tease.

at least, according to plato.
skia:
Yeah, cause Alcibiades and Socrates had just broken up, like, two weeks previous. And then here come Socrates with his new sandals because some new cute kid on the block has won the poetry laurels. And Alcibiades sees it all coming from a mile away, cause he knows what Socrates is like when the man gets all lusty, and he's bitter about the whole thing, but is also the host of the party, and so has to be polite and hospitable and ends up being rather passive-aggressive about the whole thing.

I don't know. It's possible to say that Socrates is just a lecher (not to be confused with Fletcher!) and a man who likes to pinch bottoms rather than get down and dirty. But I think that, of all the men at the party, Socrates was the only one that understood (before the party even commenced) that all the loves discussed therein were not, in fact, different at all but instead all partook of the one Love Itself that Socrates wanted to behold.

An argument could also be made, then, that Socrates has his sights set on Love (big "L"), and, while holding out for it, isn't going to mess around with just any love (small "l") to pass the time. He always seemed like the type to me, however, who would partake in as many loves as possible in the hopes that, by combining them together, he might catch a glimpse of Love Itself.

Though maybe that only makes sense to me because that's the way I go about it?

i've never written a blog before and i must say, i find it slightly intimidating. i am never able to keep a journal for long, because eventually i have that same feeling i get when cornered at a party and fast running out of witty and/or interesting things to say. i stare at a blank page and think about the always profound and eloquent journals...

Being neither old or newest best friend, yet somewhere in between, I'll do my best to pass fun music, movies, and links on to you as well.

First and foremost: www.neighborhoodies.com. It's become my Brooklyn away from Brooklyn. Maybe it won't mean much to you being so close as is, but it's still fun to look at other people's witty shirts. And they have some hotties on there.

Speaking of brooklyn, I just listened to "Dub Side of the Moon", the first reggae album I've made it all the way through since Crown Heights. It's fun. It's Floyd. I'm also a fan of Apples in Stereo at the moment. Check out "Stream Running Over" or "Signal in the Sky"

Always makes me think of Power Puff Girls.

maybe i'm on a different planet. maybe i've been hallucinating for four years. maybe in reality, our president is intelligent and confidence-inspiring.

SOMEONE WAKE ME UP FROM THIS NIGHTMARE!
rickroyal:
Sadly, we wake from the nightmare only to discover it is yet another nightmare. The terror of s/he who is asleep, and all that jazz.

Lovely pics, btw. Love the hair.
