It's almost a new year and I am so excited to welcome it in. I have a new house to firnish, a job I actually like going to everyday and I have some pretty good friends. So frankly, I can't complain.
I have been reading at some local open mics, which is great for keeping my creative muscles flexed. I am particularly fond of the open mics that are held in smokey old man bars. I like the ones where I can light up a clove and sip some Makers as I listen to a guy twice my age, who looks like he might be homeless, but is actually one of the best writers I have ever heard.
I got an mp3 player for Christmas. I named it Lucy. t's the Microsoft version of the ipod. (Zune) I don't think I will ever fill the darn thing up, because it has 30 GB memory. But I did spend almost an entire day loading it up with music, pictures and videos. (Ok, so the videos were mostly Invader Zim and Animaniacs cartoons).
I had a really great moment at work last night when I took a break to smoke. I sat on the big metal staircase outside and listened to Lucy shuffle up some music for me. I was amused to see that unbeknownst to them, the folks walking by were moving in time to the music. My favorite moment was when a gaggle of hipster-wannabe boys walked by in time to The Dresden Dolls song, "Coin-Operated Boy." It was such an appropriate soundtrack for them.
