  • Got my first restock-order for Lyssan. The UK distributor sold through their first 96 copies and wants more.
  • Got an insta-crush on a new girl using the lasers at TechShop.
  • Churning away on designing the next game. Today I got to brainstorm "corruption cards". These are cards the villain player gets to add to the hero players' deck when they screw up. They're turning...

1/20th!

Snap!
arroia:
Pulp is fine by me. In fact, I like my books silly and undemanding, as long as the plot is decent.

I've never heard of 'The Last Unicorn', but it sounds lovely. Just be a pal and let me know if the unicorn dies at the end of the book or I'll end up cursing you between the sobs. ARRR!!!

On the road back from Portland, there was a flicker on the car's hood. A brown feather, caught under the wiper? No, there's the sparkle of an eye, looking back at me. Over a few glances, the mystery resolved itself: A small brown mouse had stowed away under the hood of the car, his fur now flattened in the breeze as he huddled in the...

Thanks for the suggestions.

I'll be back in Europe in late October. Having taken all the trouble to get over there, I'm going to take a week to vacation after the work stuff is wrapped up.

Where would you go?

Things I'm looking for:
Easy to get to from Germany or Poland - I've got a stop to make in each of those, so it has to be an...

Have you ever been to Berlin before? I'm sure you will love it there. smile Where else are you heading on your trip?
otoki:
Not really. Most kids get their stuff online rather than through the school. I wish I'd done that.

GenCon was huge. I still have to hold out PAX Prime as my favorite of the game conventions, but after one GenCon, I'm already making plans for the next. I got to meet a ton of the folks who pitched in to make my game happen on Kickstarter, and many of my other designers whose games and KS campaigns I'd studied and enjoyed. My favorite...

GenCon eyyyy?

Have you been to 'Trek in the Park' in Portland? I'm assuming you are a Star Trek nerd...

You are far more well-traveled than I, sir, and moreover I am not qualified to give opinions on getting out of the cold: Essen weekend I'll be heading to Yellowstone / Montana. On purpose. So really, Norway sounds just about right to me smile Or Iceland, with its geothermal pools and unearthly landscapes.

But the south of Europe, and knowing you dislike Spain... what about Sicily? (disclaimer: my current bedside table reading is on the Normans.) Or Montenegro, along the Adriatic Sea? I expect both would be well equipped to handle foreign visitors, but decidedly off-season - perhaps some small respite from the fact of being a walking dollar sign in a tourist destination.

There is also Greece, of course, which i don't know the first thing about, except that it is a nation lacking for visitors this year. Strikes me as an excellent time to go. Perhaps Mr. Edison could be of further assistance.

Israel before it gets blown up - Tel Aviv for its crazy nightlife. Egypt sounds like it's turning to shit, to me... do be careful if you choose Egypt. But also, take lots of pictures, ne? No matter where you go.

Nerd happenings:

My maker crew was excited to get our hands on the Electric Imp beta kits. It's a little card you use to add wifi controls to anything.

So we decapitated this toy robot and gave it an imp for a new brain.

Look, I know that decapitation isn't normally viewed as a loving gesture, but this time, it totally was. Look at the...

Thats a beautiful piece of music. I witnessed a skylark attacking a hawk recently, when the hawk came too close to its nest. It was so brave and persistent eventually the hawk gave up and left for easier quarry.
They are spirited little birds and sing so melodiously, it is always nice to hear them.

Thanks for posting this it started my day wonderfully.

Wow!! Hindsight is 20/20 I guess lol.
Still that's a huge pity. Definitely the kind of experience you only get once.

The bristlenose we had before (Mrs. Prickles) was not as big as Marcus Aurelius Hypostomus Plecostomus.... she got to be 5", maybe 6" long. From there she just got more bristly. She had bristles that got bristles. I bet that's really sexy in the plecostomus world, but we mostly thought it was adorable, and of course the cories worshipped her like the superior tentacled being that she was. She was a most wonderful fish. Leviathan has big, um, shoes to fill.

In the last week:

  • I shipped my game.
  • I met the Secretary of Commerce. This was pleasant: She was sharp as could be. I'm glad to see our government is again appointing the people who give a damn and who have the brains to back it up.
  • I made grown men and women play with popsicle sticks, on a professional basis.

More than that, actually. We've got a full day stop in there, and the first night is a short drive to Vegas, so our full days of driving are going to average around 12 hours. But in the summer, that's not bad, and that includes a fair amount of stopping and looking at things.
