This year has been intense for reality surpassing the science fiction of the 90's. The latest prototype:
A handheld 5-kilowatt laser, usable like a welder's cutting torch.
It's not a proper laser rifle, so that's awesome. For once, the non-military applications lead. (Nope. See comment #1.)

Nice pun. But I did masonry.
Most of the cutting I did was actually by hand with a Partner saw. I remember cutting some expensive cap stones once and my cut was slightly off. Got my ass chewed. Another time I set my pants on fire cutting rebar. Hmm, my leg sure is getting warm. Oh shit. I was a young lad.
