I downloaded a bunch of indie-rock (that is legal right? indie rockers suck if they get rich so really buying their cd's hurts their carreers?), and realized that there seems to be some unwritten rules going on with these indie rockers.
1. Get popular enough to live off making music, but not any more popular than that because then all your fans will hate you and you'll have to go back to working at Wal-Mart.
2. Never put more than one good song on an album. Too many good songs and you'll risk getting popular. Make one song really catchy and the rest whiny introspective bullshit, so that artsy people can at least pretend to like the whole thing.
3. Get all high-pitched. Nothing says "independant" like a British accent and letting your voice crack every now and then.
4. Throw in some really shitty synth to make yourself stand out more. Just go buy the first one you find at a thrift store and press buttons until noise comes out. Play that noise in the beginning and end of all your tracks.
Ok there are probably more but i'm hell of sick of typing about some old indie rock.
