I've barely stopped moving since April.
I went to Europe and in 12 weeks I flew on 7 airplanes, rode on dozens of trains and buses, explored 13 countries and roughly 46 towns/cities, came home, had 9 full days home before setting out on a cross-country road trip with my sister and 2 kids (ages 4 1/2 and 1), passed through 12 states in 8 days, hung around in Georgia for 2 days before driving down to Jacksonville, Florida (13 states now) where my brother-in-law's grandma lives. We've been here a few days and we're heading to St Augustine tomorrow to stay in her condo by the beach for a few days. I fly home on the 30th and then I'm squeezing in 1 last adventure by driving to Portland for 2 nights over the weekend to visit former SG Rowan and some other people before I have to finally go back to work on the 4th. Sixteen weeks of traveling. Never thought I'd say it, but it'll be nice to be back to working and actually having a schedule. That and being able to see friends again will be nice!
My sister's move has been eventful to say the least.
My sister and I drove in her car with the 2 kids while her husband and a friend drove the moving truck with his car in tow. Her husband left at about 8 or 9pm the night before we left. At about 4am that morning he hit an elk and totaled the moving truck. He and his friend were just fine. He hit the elk's tail end and messed it up pretty good. The elk went into a 20ft ditch and an officer had to find it and put it down. He had to get a new moving truck, unpack and repack everything into the new truck, get a new hitch for his car because the first one got messed up in the crash. All this on the friend's 30th birthday. He deserves one massive birthday present now. As for us, we nearly hit a large male deer on a highway, at night, in Whyoming. He was in the lane next to us and just ahead of us walking very slowly across the road. I saw him, gasped, slowed down and drove around him. Me and my sister both got speeding tickets. Her car started sounding funny after about day 5. Whether they had a house or not was up in the air until we got to Atlanta and found out that they did get the house but it's not available until the 1st so my bro-in-law is in housing set up by his work and the rest of us are staying with grandma. And then last night... my 1 year old niece knocked her chin on the coffee table and somehow scraped the top layer of her tongue nearly off, from back to front, with the little flap holding on. I don't know how the fuck she did it, but there was plenty of blood, lots of crying, an ER visit, no stitches because they can't do anything about a flap, and a fever over night, but fortunately nothing too serious. It was bad, but it will heal. Today it just looked like a dark blue/purple clot on her tongue and the sides of her tongue are bruised. Poor kid looks a mess because in addition to that, she had 4 claw marks above and below her eye from the cat scratching her when she cornered it, a scab on her jawline from a run in with a bucket for toys, and then a bruise further back on her jawline from who knows what. Goodness, the life of a 1 year old is traumatic!
Alright, I've written enough and it's time for bed. Hope everyone's doing well!
