Normal is cliché. Cliché is bad. Unless you do cliché badly. In which case cliché is good.
I thought it might be a good idea to talk about myself for a bit, what I do, and why I'm here.
I started taking photos in 2012, and fell into a commercial job. This isn't your crappy, white background family portrait jobs, this was printing photos in a giant lab. I loved how the whole process worked, and it wasn't long until I had my first camera, a Canon 20D. Humble beginnings. I started to shoot my friends in a local studio, edging up until I was shooting some pretty rubbishly lit nudes and glam shots.
In 2013 I had a moment of clarity, on the middle of a training course with a good friend Shivaji, where I started to shoot differently. The camera was only an extension of my hand, I don't believe it makes the photo, it just helps. I started to shoot through things, around things, on top of things, and thought "screw the lighting! rules are meant to be broken!".
I started getting paid for shooting, so I kicked in my day job at the lab and went to uni for an MA in Photography. Completely skipped the BA course (waste of time). This is where I had the chance to experiment with my style, medium and cameras. I spent a lot of money on very expensive cameras that year. I started to stray away from shooting nudes for the longest time, and I didn't think I'd ever return. When Uni finished, I realised that all I needed was an alias to shoot under.
Now I've got a load of letters after my name, and a few days a week where I'm not doing too much. I work for myself, and I want to be able to go back to the days of my early photography, shooting girls and having a laugh along the way.
I hope this helps in understanding my photos. The truth is I don't really care for technicalities, photography rules or advice of others. i'll just do it my way, and you can join me if you want on the journey.
