So this post is about halsparks.
I've never met Hal, but I've seen Queer as Folk. In fact, in my house, everything fuckin STOPPED when Queer as Folk was on. It had to go out on a high before jumping the shark but sweet goddamn that was good drama and good TV, regardless of your feelings about gays.
For the record, I'm un-PC but have had lots of gay friends in the past etc. Am not gay but will march in a pride parade for PFLAG.
Hal had the hardest fucking job on that show. He had to tie in all the various storylines and act simultaneously vulnerable and cute as well as self-confident and extroverted enough to tie himself into the rest of the social network. His was the character that got the biggest dilemmas - the uncle who dies of AIDS, the boyfriend who's HIV+. All the others really had to do was play their respective roles - the suave gay blade, the thirtysomething guy panicking about his vanishing youth, the stereotypical but not stereotypically portrayed screaming queen, etc. But Hal had the biggest load to carry.
In short, Hal, you've heard it before, you'll hear it again, you did an awesome job on one of the best shows television has ever seen.
Hope you read this, cause it's something I'd say to yr face.
Best of luck with the standup, and we forgive you for that VH-1 stuff.
