What a great race weekend!!
Saturday Shabs and I headed to Toronto for the Waterfront Marathon.
As we came into Toronto, we could see the road closure signs for the race, and the barrier gates. My stomach started getting queasy and the nerves were setting in. I was nervous that I would not meet my 4 hour goal, or that I would have to walk a bunch of times. I was worried I would not meet my own expectations, even though the first marathon is supposed to be just to finish it, just to learn. That's just not me though. That's why I didn't follow the beginners training program. It was not enough. I wanted to be prepared, and then some.
So race day comes, and it is perfect weather. Not hot, no humidity, very little wind. I would have been happy with anything until 4 hr 10 min. Really happy with under 4:05. My deep down goal was to break 4 hr. I did it. 3 hr 57 min 31 sec.
A sub-4 hr marathon is a big marathon benchmark. A lot of people strive for that. I am so happy to have broken 4 hr in my first marathon. It was a tough goal. I am very proud that I was able to run the whole thing. I didn't even walk at the water stations. I didn't even stop to pee
4 hrs is a long time for me to not pee, even if I have nothing to drink at all! The last 35 km training run I did, I stopped 3 times to pee. That was my other fear - missing my goal because of my miniature bladder.
I finished my race, and Shabs was waiting to give me a kiss
Then he told me how he did - 3 hr and 5 min. He qualified for the Boston Marathon. My husband is going to Boston
I am so proud of him. He worked very hard this summer for this. I was so surprised when he told me, cause he wasn't planning on even trying for boston. So, looks like we have a vacation planned for April!!
It was a great weekend. Couldn't have asked for better.
