I've been so busy that I'd completely forgotten about the free three months SG has given me, and I think they're all but squandered now...
I'm snowed under with undreds of orrible things to do, and to learn, and to forget - my supervisor tells me the only time we'll ever have to stop learning new things is when we're finally placed in a box.
The science campus - the unquestionably unregal King's Buildings - is so green, all the trees looks amazing and there are no undergrads - it's quiet, it's actually quite nice. You don't notice how many trees there are when they're naked for most of the teaching year, but they've creeped up out of nowhere and make it a lot more enjoyable place to spend half my time.
Is there an entry in the 'heroes' box on your profile page? My hero is Fridtjof Nansen, he was a Norwegian polar explorer, oceanographer, athlete, neuroscientist, diplomat and 1922 winner of the nobel peace prize. I've read several of his biographies, he's a jolly inspiring fellow and I'd heartily recommend you to look one up. Who are your heroes?

That is a fascinating looking book, thanks for pointing it out to me. Nansen sounds like a man I need to read about as well, "polar explorer, oceanographer, athlete, neuroscientist, diplomat", how amazing!! It gives me more hope of managing to combine all my disparate but ambitious interests successfully somewhere in life. Eh I love your profile too by the way. So you are studying at Heriot Watt or Edinburgh Uni? How do you find your course? I've been thinking of doing a second degree in something zoological/natural history based but I'm not sure. I'm trying to get take part in some voluntary things and just do a lot of reading on the subjects I'm most interested in and see if that quenches my thirst sufficiently before I get too carried away and commit more years and money to university...
