YAY!
Hubby and I have been looking for another dog to add to the family. I've always wanted a weimaraner but I have such a hard time spending that much money on an animal when I know how many good dogs are in shelters... so I started looking at local shelters online and really hit the jackpot. A shelter about a mile down the road from my house had three weims (I'm thinking they all came from the same person even though they were picked up at different times because it is a rarity to find so many in one place). I went in and one was already adopted and the other two had applications on them already. I went ahead and filled out an application because even if you don't get the pet you want they'll keep your info if you're looking at other animals, which I was. I saw several other dogs that were just soooo sweet and lovable. P.S. I hate going to shelters because those dogs look so sad in their cages. I just can't stand it. I hate to see a neglected animal (thankfully none of the animals in this shelter were malnourished or obviously abused, I cry every time I see that) and I wanted to take ALL of them home. The animals get so excited when you stop in front of their cage, it's clear they don't get enough attention
While I was filling out my application another family came in and walked the weims and were asking questions so I was pretty sure we wouldn't get either of them. Anyway, I got a call around 5 and the woman in charge of the shelter asked me a few questions and told me I could pick up my little girl on Thursday. It all happened so fast, I had to double check she meant I was approved! I'm SOO happy. I will post pictures as soon as I can
As a side note, if you're thinking of getting a dog or cat, please PLEASE check out your local shelter first. It's impossible not to fall in love with the animals there and the best dogs I've ever had were shelter dogs. There is nothing sadder than a caged animal.
