I ran away for the weekend. Drove down to San Diego on Friday. Had a bbq at Ocean Beach Friday afternoon, partied at a friend's house that night and tried a Hooka (sp?) for the first time. It was apple flavored. I enjoyed it.
I went home with an girlfriend of mine who is still a good friend. We had great face-slapping stomach biting, toe-sucking slamming-the-couch-into-the-wall sex...several times that night. (Fuck did i need that!!)
Saturday we went to brunch at Guava Beach where i had the best Mahi Mahi taco EVER, then we met my friends at PB. I decided to try out surfing for the first time. WOW! It is quite a lot of fun. and WAY easier than i thought it would be. I always had this image of getting smacked in the face constantly with the board until you figured it out...but it just isn't like that. It was really simple to catch a wave and then pretty simple to get up to my knees and ride a few in and then i actually stood up 3 times. Now i'm hooked and really want to go again.
There are, however 2 downsides to this story:
1) Getting to the beach in SD and LA are 2 VERY different things. It's really quick and easy in SD, even on the weekends. It's a bitch in LA anytime you go..unless you live in Santa Monica or Hermosa or Manhattan or one of those areas.
2) I experienced first hand the DICKHEAD surfer attitude that can be around. What is it about people who've done something for a while acting like you don't have a right to learn too...acting like the OWN the goddamn ocean? I drifted unknowingly into a group of surfers. i didn't intentionally go wade out into their little area. Of course no one had the balls to actually say anything like "hey, you're new..you really should go over that way a bit." no, instead it was high school antics of snickering and acting like they were going to run over me. Alas, i'm not easily threatened so once i realized this was going on, i made a better attempt to get up and before some of the snickerer's did and then aimed in their direction. Suddenely, everything wasn't so funny and they weren't so snickery...they just got the fuck out my way and i stayed out of their's. Geez. Do some people ever grow out of that silly bravity/safety in groups bullshit?
I will note however that there were several good surfers who were cool and would take the time to say "hey, there you go" and point when they realized a good wave was coming.
Sunday, we went to a breakfast place called The Cottage...OH MY!! The most delicious mediteranean Omelet i've ever tasted. Red Bell Peppers, Garlic, Onions, Italian Pork Sausage and Tomatoes....mmmmm.
The synopsis: I like fish tacos now. I like surfing now. . .and i've gotta start making that omelet on the weekends.
