Every once in a while when I'm outside smoking, I remember sitting in health class in my freshman year in high school. The discussion of the day was anti smoking. This was before I smoked. The teacher explained that an addiction to nicotine was like this: There are a bunch of little people in your head working and making a certain chemical (the chemical escapes me), and they are always working to keep it at a certain level. When you inhale nicotine, there is a surplus of this chemical, so the little people can take a break. Eventually you get more and more build up of this chemical and the little people go "hey, there is enoughed stored here for us to take a vacation". And then you try to quit. Well, the little people in your head dont want to come back from there vacation, they want to stay and hang out in the sun". And thats why its hard to quit.
The first time I smoked a cigarrette was also the first time I did acid. Halfway thorugh the cigarrette I started cracking up thinking about all the little people in my head that were gonna leave.
*wipes tear* Good shit.
Its really hard to convince a room of people on acid that your not all 'crazy on drugs', but that your teacher told you that the little people would go on vacation when I started smoking.
