I mentioned writing a letter to my Spanish grandmother yesterday--she's been deteriorating slowly over the last year or so, and I miss our letters. We used to communicate regularly through the post when I was younger, keeping each other abreast of the little happenings in our daily lives. My dad phoned me today and told me she passed away this morning.
Her and my English granddad (they're my father's parents) lived on a sprawling farm-like setting in their little green-and-white house. They grew their own vegetables, kept dogs and cats, and my Granddad made things in his woodworking shop. (Beautiful things-I have an amazing mahogany chest with my full name carved in it, and it's followed me around to every home I've lived in). My Grandmum-Abuelita was a tiny, birdlike woman, with sooty, dark hair and delicate blue eyes. She was quiet and dainty, always reading old spy thrillers and books about Queen Mary and Pierre Trudeau. When we'd visit she'd hug us with a strength far beyond her 98 pounds, and when we left, she always cried.
My dad told me that shortly before she died she said, "I'm going to go visit Tom now" (Tom is my granddad- he died last year.) I cried a little when I heard that.

I was out of the loop here for a bit...Are you working for yourself yet?
It's looking more and more likely that I'll be going out west this summer..I've never been to Vancouver island, I really want to go..And see more of Vancouver (the city) ..I only spent a few days there once and I loved every second!
