Sigh...
Cracker appears to have a problem leaking transmission fluid. As this wasn't a problem before his trip to the mechanic, I'm hoping they forgot to put a cap back on or close something up or do whatever car thing they do when they replace transmission fluid. Either way, I just hope they take care of it and don't charge me anything. Luckily, the car stopped working a mere 5 feet from our driveway, and the mechanic is only a few blocks away. Fingers crossed that it's an easy and quick fix. I don't really want to spend more vacation hours on stupid car stuff.

Define "stopped working". If you ran out of tranny fluid that could potentially be the end of that transmission. If so they'll be owing you one.

Most likely the forgot to replace the fill plug and it leaked out. That's why it wasn't shifting into gear. No hydraulic pressure. Should have left a lot of red stuff wherever it was leaking. Hopefully it only leaked to a point of non-operation and not failure. I'd be talking to that shop and be present at the time it's checked out so they can't try and bullshit you if it is their fault.
