Eureka, CA. The one on the coast. The other one is Yreka. That's in the mountains.

For some ungodly reason, I'm fully awake at 6-something on a Sunday morning. That's just not right.

It might be because I'm thinking about these bicycles that EnergyChannel wants us to buy, even though they are each like $500. We want to get back into bicycling, save gas, get in shape, perhaps recapture some youth, but that some expensive recapturing, isn't it?

I haven't had a bike since I was a kid, so I don't know. What does one pay for a decent bike these days? Scarily enough, the bikes we liked were some of the cheaper ones in the store. Who the hell pays so much for a bike?

If you have a bike, what did you pay for it? I promise I won't judge.

Oh yeah, and here is the bike we're both considering. Matching bikes! How cute is that?

Last bike I had stolen from me was about $500. I spend at least $40 a week on gas though, so a bike would eventually end up saving me money. And endorphins are pretty priceless.

$500 is not a ton of dough for a good bike, as many have noted. I tend to go second hand for high-end equipment and cars as the savings are so large, though with bikes that usually means getting something that was really good (or the shit) a few years ago but is now a bit passe. The good points to this strategy are saving dollars and your bike is less appealing to thieves and saving dollars (I like that). The bad is that you don't get the newest keenest color. Whatever way you go, try to enlist the help of a friend to advise you on the cost/quality issues and maybe even the particular bikes themselves.
