It has been awhile since I was at a show that I honestly didn't want to end. Last night was such a show. It was a Merge Records triple bill, with Annie Hayden, Radar Bros., and Clientele, and all three were great. Annie, a bit too soft and wispy for my taste, but she was cute nonetheless, the Radar Bros., fucking awesome and my first time seeing them, and the Clientele, amazing for such a relatively quiet band.
The Doug Fir had for once people over the age of 21 (like, well over the age), so I didn't feel old and hopelessly unhip. We arrived early and the place was empty. The Radar Bros. hadn't even set up their merch yet. We passed the time chatting with Heather, the booker/merch seller, who has had a long history with our beloved Elephant 6 bands. She even holds the distinction of having been Jeff Mangum's ex-roommate, which made me wish that hansel had been there so he could pass out in awe.
Cuddleslut (I hope that's right) arrived shortly thereafter, and we chatted briefly with the extremely tall and attractive bass player from the Radar Bros. as he strategized how to fit three bands' worth of merch into the tiny, tiny alcove the Doug Fir has allotted for that purpose. We sadly could not afford any merch, although all three of us drooled over it enough.
Great night. I definitely needed that. Too bad it had to be on a Monday.
