Finally doing some @bloghomework! This week @radeo, @missy, and @lyxzen asked us if we've ever met anyone famous. I've actually met a few!
The first famous person I ever met was Ed Norton on the set of The Hulk. My aunt was a head librarian at a University of Toronto college that happened to be used as a set for the movie. I was volunteering that summer to help update the old card-based check out system to a digital barcode system. We were sorting all the books, barcoding them, setting up the computers, and putting them all back. Unfortunately, the cameras were pointed at the library windows a lot, so it was very slow going. Not to mention the loudness of the fake military rifles which was also setting off some veterans in the continuing education classes going on also. Anyway, during one of my lunches there was a break in shooting as well, so I wandered on set to get a picture of myself there. They'd built a fake bridge hall thing over the real outdoor cloister, but you had to climb through a window to get to it. Being the klutz that I am, I hit my head off the top part and swore loudly. What I didn't know was that Ed Norton was napping on a director's chair in the room and I sort of startled him awake. It was otherwise uneventful, as I didn't realize until afterwards who he even was!
Another famous person I met was way more awesome and less embarrassing! A friend of mine was an improv actor and he got news of a show in a small club by none other than Colin Mochrie! I got to sit in the front row and watch one of my favourite comedians do improv live! For anyone who doesn't know, Colin Mochrie is a Canadian comedian best known for Who's Line Is It Anyway? He came out to the bar at the back of the club to meet everyone after and was the most amazing, sweet person I've ever met. The picture I took was on my old phone which was then dropped in water, so the picture is lost, but it was really awesome to meet and chat a bit! If any of you haven't seen Who's Line, you should check out some clips on Youtube. It was a really awesome improv show, and the blooper real is also fantastic.
I've also met loads of people who are well known in the BDSM or queer/feminist porn communities, though they're not quite as famous outside those communities. Names you might recognize though are Lord Morpheous, Sunny Megatron, Jizz Lee, Tristan Taoromino, Shine Louise Houston, and Tobi-Hill Meyer. I've also met Terry-Jean Bedford from the recent Supreme Court case here in Canada about sex work, and she was lovely! I've also met one of her lawyers, who is also really awesome. I also have a friend who is cousins with Jim Carrey, and old music teacher who lived with and hung out with Mike Meyers as a kid, and another friend who went to high school with the new female vocalist/keyboardist for Cradle of Filth, so my degrees of Kevin Bacon are probably quite small!
