So. The major project is finally done, and for the first time this year i can actually have a few days off.
The project was to work on (for about seven weeks) and present a game concept in a competition. We were six groups working on concepts for either handhelds (all groups except for ours) or downloadable, such as X-Box 360 - Live: Arcade (which our game was ment for). We were one of the (if not the one) favourite groups before the big presentation yesterday.
The winning group gets a chance to make a deal with a local company to develop the game there. Someone out there may have heard of a game called "the city of metronome" (presented on last years E3). That is such a project from two years back.
Me and the other programmer sat up all night to get the last few details into place. We had a plan to be done early enough to at least be able to run home and take a shower. Last minute panic broke out when suddenly (it seemed to be because of some stupid windows update) either my computer was slower, or the game was suddenly extremly heavy to run. The solution was to take all the RAM out of my computer and put it in my frinds computer, boosting it to 1 GIG RAM!!!
We didnt win the competition, but we are ok with that. We have gotten enough good feedback and connections to possibly be able to get a deal to make the game further on anyway.
Anyway, we did get the price for "best demo". To be honest, there were never much of a competition for that title. We were the only ones who could invite four members of the jury down to actually play it.
I was going to post a few screnshots, but it will just have to wait. I have no recent shots available, and it is alot of work to take new ones right now. Probably next week or so.
This weekend im not going to do anything usefull what so ever.
