I don't know why this is...but this song popped in my mind today, it's by this guy called Kadison Joshua, and it's called "Jessie." It was really popular on the adult contemporary stations back in 1993. I used to adore that song when I was 10. I also had bad taste back then, I used to adore Michael Bolton of all people, thought he was it back then. Obviously, I've grown since then. But I guess the lyrics have stayed.
From a phone booth in Vegas, Jessie calls at 5 A.M.
to tell me how she's tired of all of them.
She says, "Baby, I been thinking 'bout a trailer by the sea.
We could go to Mexico... you, the cat and me.
We'll drink tequila and look for sea shells.
Now, doesn't that sound sweet?"
Oh, Jessie, you always do this every time I get back on my feet.
Jessie paint your pictures 'bout how it's gonna be.
By now I should know better, your dreams are never free.
But tell me all about our little trailer by the sea;
Jessie you can always sell any dream to me.
Oh, Jessie, you can always sell any dream to me.
She asks me how the cat's been. I say, "Moses he's just fine
but he used to think about you all the time.
We finally took your pictures down off the wall.
Oh, Jessie, how do you always seem to know just when to call?"
She says, "Get your stuff together. Bring Moses and drive real fast."
And I listen to her promise, "I swear to God this time it's gonna last."
Jessie paint your pictures 'bout how it's gonna be.
By now I should know better, your dreams are never free.
But tell me all about our little trailer by the sea;
Jessie you can always sell any dream to me.
Oh, Jessie, you can always sell any dream to me.
I'll love you in the sunshine, lay you down in the warm white sand.
And who knows, maybe this time things'll turn out just the way you planned.
Jessie paint your pictures 'bout how it's gonna be.
By now I should know better, your dreams are never free.
But tell me all about our little trailer by the sea;
Jessie you can always sell any dream to me.
Oh, Jessie, you can always sell any dream to me.
I guess I should mention in my inebriated ramblings that the current song has been competing for a spot in my mind with A Perfect Circle's cover of John Lennon's "Imagine." Now, I am not one for covers. My philosophy is that if you're going to cover a song, you better damn well do a good job and make the original look like shit in comparison to yours. Which is why most covers suck. Johnny Cash did a phenomenal cover of "Hurt" by NIN. I adore it. AFI, I'm sorry to say, did a mediocre cover of "Head Like a Hole" by NIN, BUT made up for it by covering "Just Like Heaven" by The Cure. That has to be the best cover I have ever heard. Likewise, I feel that APC has done a wonderful job covering the late great Mr. Lennon. Absolutely astounding.
And I stand by my word. On all of the above
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
