Okay, so I have had probably the MOST humbling moment tonight:
Dick Cheney was at this Gyros restaurant today, and of course I had to cover it. I knew about this in advance, and I tried to dress as conservatively as possible (or at least as conservatively as you can with pink hair and an ear tattoo) to blend in. Only 2 other photographers were there, and quarters were really tight, so even to be let in was a big deal. I wanted to make the best possible impression. I had just gotten a new lens, which is bigger than my arm from my shoulder to my elbow and is a serious piece of equipment, so I was feeling confident.
Each photographer had to go up one by one with an escort to get close up pictures of Cheney, which naturally you want. You had to nearly get on your hands and kness, sqatting to avoid being in the way of video cameras, and also people's sightlines. The escort and I got low to the ground, and I sat leaning forward on my knees in between where guests were seated to get a well composed shot. I would say I went up there twice, and was also shooting a lot sitting on my knees in the press pool. In the press pool are Associated Press photographers, white house reporters, and the local news.
After Cheney's speech as over, a young blond volunteer from the area's Republican party approahed me. "I don't know if I should tell you this, but you might want to know," she said. I wanted to know, so she told me while I was up front taking pictures, my sweater was riding up and my underwear was visible. A lot. And I was wearing a scarlet thong. She was able to describe it to me. Apparently everyone behind me could easily see it. Sigh.
I played it off, and untimately it's not THAT big of a deal, but still. My face was as red as my drawers. The reporter from my paper thought it was funny, naturally, but he said I shouldn't worry: at least the view was nice. Awwwwwww...
So yeah, I think that may very well be my most humbling moment. Pretty funny, huh? I guess I'll have to update my profile......
Oh yeah, one more thing.....FUCK CHENEY AND THE WHOLE DAMNED MACHINE
