Holy Christmas I have had the strangest night last night. I got home from an extended day at work at 4 in the morning all ready to hit the sack. I had to be up by 7:30, so I was really looking forward to some sleep. I got ready, turned out the lights, got comfy, and.......loud stepping and rustling noises were coming out of the upstairs bedroom. I could hear rummaging and objects being shuffled around, and the first thing I think of, of course being a woman alone in the house near a bad neighborhood, is Oh Shit my number is up; someone finally broke in and they're hiding upstairs. I grabbed my butcher knife and a baseball bat, slipped into some clothes, and quietly crouched down in the dark, ready to get the jump on who or what ever was in my house. Slowly I hear the stairs creak. I can feel my heartbeat pounding in my eardrums. I take a look across from my bed and see.....4 furry legs. A cat had ripped open a screen covering my second story window and was looking for food in my house! ( I have a bird and a gerbil, so this is cause for alarm.) As soon as I got up, the cat went running under my kitchen shelves, and I spend this morning at 5:00am trying to chase this cat out of the door. By the time the dust settled, I had gotten 1 hour of sleep my the time my alarm rang, and I had to call into work my third day back after a leave of absence because I was too exhausted. Whew! So today I am securing my mindows with an extra layer of screen and lots and lots of staples, and I am also rinsing out my drawers, cuz last night scared the shit out of me. Bad kitty!!
